Uffizi Gallery to Undergo Major Renovation from 2027 to Modernize and Preserve Renaissance Masterpieces

The Uffizi Gallery in Florence is preparing for a major renovation scheduled to begin in 2027. The project will involve extensive restoration and modernization of the museum’s historic spaces, designed to improve visitor access and the preservation of its art collection.
The gallery, founded in 1581 by Francesco I de’ Medici, hosts one of the world’s most important collections of Renaissance art. The planned upgrade will address both structural concerns and exhibition layouts, aiming to enhance the display of masterpieces by artists such as Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo.
Officials announced that the renovation will include improvements to climate control systems and lighting to better protect sensitive artworks. The project will also upgrade visitor facilities and incorporate more technology-driven educational tools.
Work on the Uffizi is expected to last three years, during which parts of the gallery may be closed temporarily. The museum remains open to the public while sections are restored in phases. This renovation is the most significant since the 1980s and reflects ongoing efforts to preserve the cultural heritage housed within one of Italy’s most visited museums.
