Maskinrummet Set to Open in Skagen as Ambitious New Attraction Nears Launch

Skagen is preparing for the opening of a major new attraction as Oplevelsescenter Maskinrummet gets ready to welcome visitors on Saturday, 27 June. The project, led by Henning Kjeldsen, is being presented as the result of roughly two and a half years of work and a long-held dream finally becoming reality.
Maskinrummet is set to offer far more than a traditional museum visit. At the heart of the new experience will be a vast collection of more than 400 engines from many different countries, with several already able to run and more expected to be brought to life over time. Visitors can also look forward to a large moped exhibition, an extensive motorcycle collection, and a significant display of cars from both before and after the Second World War.
Beyond the vehicles themselves, the attraction will include petrol pumps, signs, oil cans, and a wide range of objects linked to the broader history of engines, transport, and mechanics. The maritime side will also play a major role, with around 800 square metres dedicated to maritime effects and displays that are expected to change over time, giving returning visitors something new to explore.
Maskinrummet is also aiming to broaden its appeal beyond mechanical history. Plans include a large Louis Vuitton exhibition featuring hundreds of trunks, bags, clothing items, and shoes, along with a shop selling souvenirs and branded goods.
Food, views, and social spaces are also part of the concept. Restaurant Fyrtårnet will offer views across Skagen, Grenen, and the sea, while visitors will also find the café Kabyssen, a buffet restaurant, and an English-style pub called Captains Corner. A music and event area, as well as meeting facilities, are also planned.
The experience will extend beyond the building itself. According to the report, Maskinrummet will connect with activities on the water and around town, including trips on the boat Tunø to Grenen, additional working boats, and sightseeing tours aboard the old Bedford vintage bus.If it lives up to expectations, Maskinrummet could quickly become one of Skagen’s standout new destinations this summer, bringing together engines, maritime heritage, design, dining, and local experiences in one large-scale visitor attraction.
