Glen Carbon Historical Museum Unveils Exhibit Showcasing Fire District’s 70-Year Legacy

The Glen Carbon Historical Museum will open a new exhibit on September 5 that chronicles the history of the Glen Carbon Fire Protection District. The exhibit will feature photographs, equipment, and documents tracing the fire district’s development from its founding in 1951 to the present day.
The display includes early firefighting gear and uniforms used by volunteer firefighters who served the community before the district established full-time personnel. Visitors will also see a restored 1960s-era fire engine that was once part of the district’s fleet.
The museum event on opening day will include remarks by Fire Chief William Jackson and longtime district historian Margaret Field, who assembled many of the items. The exhibit aims to preserve the story of local fire services and recognize the district’s role in public safety for more than 70 years.
The Glen Carbon Historical Museum is located at 302 South Main Street and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. The fire district exhibit will remain on view until May 2027.
