Sound can change an exhibition completely when it is used well.
It might be quiet music, recorded voices, city noise, machinery, birdsong, oral history, footsteps, or a carefully placed soundscape that helps the room feel more alive. Used badly, sound can become distracting or tiring. But used with care, it can add atmosphere without taking attention away from the objects.
I especially appreciate exhibitions where sound helps visitors understand a time, place, or personal story more clearly. It can make the experience feel less like reading information on walls and more like entering a world for a short time.
Have you visited an exhibition where sound really added something?
What did you hear, and why did it make the exhibition stronger?
