I find it fascinating when an exhibition shows an object's whole life rather than only presenting it in its current condition.
A faded textile, repaired piece of furniture, altered painting, or heavily used tool can carry traces of everyone who owned, used, restored, or preserved it. Sometimes those changes are just as interesting as the object's original purpose.
