Exhibitions where sound adds to the story

Sound can change the atmosphere of an exhibition very quickly.

Sometimes it is music, voices, archive recordings, footsteps, machinery, nature sounds, city noise, or a carefully placed audio point that helps bring the subject closer. When it is done well, sound can make an exhibition feel more layered without needing extra objects or long text panels.

But it is also easy to get wrong. If the sound is too loud, repetitive, or leaking into every room, it can become distracting instead of helpful. The best examples usually feel controlled and purposeful.

Have you seen an exhibition where sound genuinely improved the experience?

Did it make the story feel more alive, or do you usually prefer quieter exhibition spaces?
