Do black-and-white museum photos add focus or lose atmosphere?

Most museum photos are taken in colour, but black-and-white can sometimes change the feeling completely.

It can make architecture, shadows, staircases, sculptures, textures, and quiet gallery spaces feel more focused. Without colour, your attention may move toward shape, light, contrast, and composition. A busy room can sometimes feel calmer in black-and-white.

At the same time, colour is often part of the museum experience. Paintings, textiles, ceramics, lighting, wall colours, and exhibition design can lose something important if the photo removes that layer.

Do you ever turn museum photos into black-and-white?

Do you think it adds mood and focus, or does it take away too much of what the museum actually felt like?
