Capturing the atmosphere of a gallery without focusing on a single object

Not every museum photograph needs a famous artwork or a specific artefact as the main subject.

Sometimes the most effective images capture the overall atmosphere of a gallery: the arrangement of space, the quality of light, the relationship between visitors and exhibits, or the feeling of moving through a room.

These photographs can communicate what it was actually like to be there, which is often difficult to achieve with close-up object photography alone.

Do you ever try to photograph the atmosphere of a museum rather than a particular exhibit?

What techniques help you capture the feeling of a space?
