What is the one thing that makes you stay longer in a museum than you planned?

I think most of us know that moment.

You tell yourself it will be a quick visit. Maybe an hour. Maybe less. And then suddenly you are still there much later, moving more slowly, reading more, going back to one room, or sitting down just to take it all in.

What I find interesting is that the reason is not always the same.

Sometimes it is one extraordinary object. Sometimes it is the overall atmosphere. Sometimes the museum is just laid out in a way that makes it easy to keep going. And sometimes you are simply in the right mood for it.

So I would love to know — what usually does that for you?

What is the thing that makes a museum shift from “a short stop” to “I think I need more time here”?
