The best cities for mixing museums with normal city life

Some museum cities are impressive because of their famous institutions, but others stand out because the museums fit naturally into the rhythm of the city.

I like cities where you can visit a museum in the morning, walk through an interesting neighbourhood, stop for food nearby, and then find another gallery or historic site without the day feeling too planned. It makes the museums feel connected to the streets around them, not separated from the rest of the trip.

For me, a great museum city is not only about how many museums it has. It is also about how easy and enjoyable it feels to move between them.

Which city do you think is best for combining museums with everyday city exploring?

Is there a place where the museums, streets, food, and neighbourhoods all work especially well together?
