This is a small museum habit, but I think it says a lot about how people like to visit.
Some people never want to see the shop until the very end because they want the galleries to come first and do not want anything commercial breaking the mood. Others like to look early, especially if the shop gives a quick sense of the museum’s identity, current exhibition themes, or the kinds of objects and ideas that matter there.
I have noticed that in some museums, the shop almost feels like part of the experience, while in others it feels completely separate.
What do you usually do?
Do you like to stop by the shop before the visit starts, or do you save it for the end when you know what connected with you most?
