Do you like knowing how a museum collection was built?

Sometimes the objects in a museum are only part of the story. The other interesting question is how the collection came together in the first place.

Was it built by one collector, a local community, a royal family, archaeologists, artists, scientists, donors, or many generations of curators? Knowing this can change the way you understand the museum. It can make the visit feel more human, because you start to see the choices, passions, gaps, and priorities behind the collection.

Not every museum explains this clearly, but when they do, it can add a useful extra layer to the visit.

Do you enjoy learning how a museum collection was built, or do you prefer to focus only on the objects themselves?
