Museum maps can be very useful, especially in large buildings where it is easy to miss whole sections. They help with entrances, cafés, toilets, temporary exhibitions, lifts, quiet spaces, and finding your way back when galleries start to look similar.
But I also wonder if maps sometimes make a visit feel too controlled. When you follow the route too closely, you may stop wandering, noticing side rooms, or letting curiosity decide where to go next.
For me, the best museum maps give enough structure without making the visit feel like a checklist. They help you understand the building, but still leave room for discovery.
How do you use museum maps?
Do you check them carefully before starting, look only when you get lost, or prefer to explore without one?
