Cities where the museum route is part of the experience

In some cities, the journey between museums becomes part of the museum day itself.

A walk through old streets, a river crossing, a park, a university area, a harbour, or a historic square can make the next museum feel connected to the city around it. The museums are still the main reason for the visit, but the route between them adds atmosphere and gives the day a stronger sense of place.

I think this is one reason some museum cities feel so enjoyable. It is not only about famous collections. It is also about how naturally the city leads you from one cultural stop to another.

Which city has given you the best museum walking route?

Was it because the museums were close together, or because the city itself made the route memorable?
